What is ‘A day in the life’ Documentary Photography?
(aka documentary family photography or family photojournalism)

‘A day in the life’ Documentary photography is

capturing the in-between the poses moments.

Images that tell the story behind those posed smiling faces in the picture frame.

A story of your life, your dogs, your kids, your work, your family as it is now.

In real life.

Images that show not just how you looked.

But how you felt and how you loved each other.

Unposed. Unscripted. Loving and silly. Imperfect and untamed.

The good, the quirky, and all the messes.

It’s those moments where life happens. And many of your best memories are made.

If you’re a small business owner, it’s those moments that help make you more relatable to your clients.

Help you stand out and give them a little behind-the-scenes peek to show them how awesome you and your business are.

If you were to make a list of all the funny moments,

everyday routines and special traditions

you want to hold onto and remember for yourself and for your kids, do you have photos of them?

Are they artistic and professional? Do they tell a cohesive story, maybe in a beautiful album you can cherish?

Or are they on your cell phone mixed in with all the other hundreds of photos?

When you were growing up did your family document your childhood the way you wanted?

Not just the important smiling-for-the-camera milestones,

but the funny stories and in-between the poses moments?

We can’t go back unfortunately (believe me, I’ve been forever wishing that time machines would be invented), but I can help you create the type of images of your kids’ childhood that you wish you had of yours.

Or the love, companionship and incredible bond you have with your dogs.

Our other babies that make us laugh, bring us unconditional love every day, and unfortunately leave us way too soon.

A beautiful and real story of this particular time in your family’s life as it is now and won’t be again.

Not just how you looked posing in cute matching clothes at the park.

But how you felt
and how you loved each other.

That sounds amazing! I would love to have photos like that. But what if we’re too boring, or my kids/dogs don’t cooperate, or my house is messy?

Believe me,

you’ll never be boring.

Your everyday routines and normal activities like:

making breakfast, daily walks, craft projects with all the glitter, baking cookies, cuddling and nose kisses, reading, singing and laughing, dogs barking, howling and running around the house, the occasional meltdown, spilled juice, cheerio covered floors

and

trips to the pet store or the beach, splashing in puddles, playing with toys, bath time, riding bikes, sledding, and running through sprinklers or snow

They’re all unique to you. It’s the stuff that helps make your life special and meaningful.

I know the idea of having your real life photographed can sound a little scary.

I get it.

I wouldn’t necessarily want a photographer capturing me pre-caffeinated in my oldest pair of yoga pants with unwashed hair pulled on top of my head.

But this isn’t a reality tv show and I promise I’m not bringing a camera crew.

You can get dressed, brush your hair and straighten up your house a little, if you want to, before I get there.

Or not.

The final images are yours to share.

Or not.

It’s up to you.

The great thing about a day in the life photography session is

whatever happens happens.

No poses and no pressure. No fancy clothes.

No bribing your kids with extra screen time.

Just you being you.

Living life and making memories.
